I am a seventh-generation potter, born and raised in Istalif, Afghanistan, a village recognized for centuries as the center of ceramic art and commerce. Inspired by my father and my grandfather before him, my work is both functional and decorative and glazed in hues that reflect the earth’s natural palette. From preparing the clay to perfecting the form to mixing and applying the glaze, each step in my process is an expression of a humble desire to create pieces that enhance an everyday meal or special celebration or simply stir a moment of reflection.
